AMTA Florida Blog - FALL2022

Florida AMTA Members,

I can hardly believe that we’re just a few days away from the official beginning of Fall. While the weather in Florida is sunny and beautiful, I’m certainly happy to see the temperatures begin to drop a bit as we usher in the Fall season this year.

If you were unable to attend this year’s AMTA National Convention that was held in Cleveland, Ohio, you missed a fantastic event. I would encourage you to go onto the national website to browse through some of the awesome educational events that were offered, as well as the amazing keynote speaker and guest speakers. There you will also find many photos of our National leaders and colleagues. If at all possible, please try to attend one of the next national conventions that are upcoming in Phoenix, Arizona and Tampa, Florida.

As most of you already know, due to some of the setbacks that everyone faced caused by the pandemic over the last couple of years, your AMTA Florida board has attempted to help offset some of the financial burden in completing your continuing education for the 2023 renewal cycle. Thus, most of our continuing education classes are offered at approximately $7 per credit hour (there may be a couple that are a bit more due to location). Many of you took advantage of the classes held earlier this year which began in April.

The classes were as follows:

  • 4/4/22 - Our Annual Continuing Education Event was held where the Chapter offered 6 complimentary credit hours in one of the following modalities: Hand and Forearm Pain Expanded with Judith Delaney, Intro to Cupping Therapy with Paul Kohlmeier, and Intro to Myofascial Sports Massage with Pete Pfannerstill.
  • 4/30/22RNR151 Hips, Piriformis, Tailbone, QL, Rhomboids, Neck and Face (12-hours) – Held in Jacksonville, Florida
  • 7/16/22 - RNR151 Hips, Piriformis, Tailbone, QL, Rhomboids, Neck and Face (12-hours) – Held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
  • 8/6/22Myofascial Sports Massage (16-hours) – Held in Jacksonville, Florida
  • 9/17/22Introduction to Cranial Sacral (12-hours) – Held in West Palm, Florida
  • UPCOMING! 10/15/22Myofascial Sports Massage (16-hours) – Held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
  • UPCOMING! 11/12/22Evidence Informed Clinical Cupping (16 hours) – Held in Key West, Florida
  • More classes are in the negotiation/contracting phase as we look for offerings to be held in the panhandle, west coast and Orlando areas. Please check out the website for future classes (website info below).

We are super excited to share with you that we have created a new chapter website. We are hoping that you’ll find this website much easier to navigate, In addition, we will be able to post our upcoming events and share a link to register within the post – something we’ve been trying to make happen for quite some time. Please keep in mind that it is a brand new site, and there are still a few kinks that we are trying to work out. However, the next two continuing education classes are posted and have a link to register, so feel free to go ahead and register if you haven’t already done so. Simply go to the “Continuing Education” tab and see the options. As always, if you have any suggestions on how we can make the website more informational, please shoot us an email and let us know.

The AMTA Florida chapter board will be meeting in November to discuss the annual meeting to be held early 2023 (February or March). We are leaning toward having the annual business meeting virtually, as we have in the past couple of years, in an effort to be fiscally responsible and to offer those finances to the members by way of highly discounted continuing education to meet August, 2023 renewal needs. As in years past, it’s highly likely that we will be offering a choice of different classes at the Annual Continuing Education Event.

The details of the 2023 Florida Annual Continuing Education Event will be ironed out in November and we will make an announcement soon thereafter which will include a “save the date”, in hopes that many of our members will be able to attend.

Respectfully,

Jamie Beverly-Bonilla, MHRM, BS, LMT
